The year 2021 marked a turning point for Google’s Pixel smartphones, with Qualcomm Snapdragon chips replaced by Google’s Tensor chips and a radical redesign.
What will the year 2022 bring to the Pixel universe? Even Google has confirmed that the design will remain roughly the same, but we’re hoping for a few significant improvements between the two phones. What is this talk about as a potential third model?
Following the massive success of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the Google Pixel 7 is a highly anticipated Android phone from Google. Google invested heavily in new marketing strategies to help the Pixel 7 build on the success of the Pixel 6 as the best Android value ever.
We have compiled the most recent news and updates regarding the new devices and a few things we hope to see when the Pixel 7 is released.
Release Date for Google Pixel 7
Google officially announced the Pixel 7 release date during the opening keynote of its 2022 I/O developer conference on the 11th of May. It states that the device will be “available this fall” and reveals a few official images. Google confirmed on the 6th of September that the next Pixel 7 hardware event would occur on the 6th of October at 10 a.m. Eastern Time.
Pixel 7 will utilise a second-generation Tensor chip, which enables more support for artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
Hardware and Specs
Google completely redesigned the Google Pixel series last year with the Google Pixel 6. From the controversial under-display fingerprint sensor (a first for the series) to the massive rear camera bar, it appears the company has established a new design for its smartphones.
The Google Pixel 7 maintains the visor-like camera strip but has replaced the cameras with a pill-and-dot cutout. The Pixel’s glass rear camera bar has been replaced with metal; on the Google Pixel 6 series, it was made of glass.
Furthermore, it will be available in the colours Obsidian and Snow, which are essentially black and white. The Pixel 7 is also offered in an exclusive Lemongrass hue.
According to leaks, the mmWave window along the top edge has been redesigned from the unsightly transparent window seen on the Pixel 6 Pro and specific carrier variants of the Pixel 6.
A leaked Pixel 7 prototype listed on eBay reveals a cleaner, smaller window built into the metal rail of the minor mode. It indicates that it will include the feature this time without carrier markup.
Early FCC listings indicate that ultra-wideband support will remain a Pro-series-only feature for another year. If you’ve been interested in digital car keys, you may be disappointed by this restriction.
Price for Pixel 7
A recent price leak, fortunately, revealed that Google intends to maintain these competitive prices. According to Android Police’s Artem Russakovskii, the Pixel 7 will cost $599, and the Pixel 7 Pro will cost $899, which is identical to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This is allegedly from a trustworthy source, but it makes sense for Google to maintain the same prices.
That’s because one of the most attractive aspects of the Pixel is the variety of options available at affordable prices. It would be odd if Google decided to increase the cost of its low-priced flagship smartphones.
Conclusion
We can expect a lot from the Google Pixel 7, but we will have to wait and see if the rumours are true. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available!
