Google has recently announced the launch of the new Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones. However, there’s not much we know about the Google phones just yet. Although, Google has been teasing some exciting details about their new Android phones. And here are some highlights we know so far.
Google’s Own Mobile Chip
With the launch of the Pixel 6 phones comes Google’s own mobile chip. This new system is called the Tensor SoC, which got its name from the Tensor Processing Units (TPU) used in Google’s data centres.
Instead of a single processor, the Tensor is a system on a chip (SoC). Google has been teasing that the Tensor will provide more than what previous chips have. This includes accelerated machine learning tasks, improved photography and video processing and advanced voice recognition.
With these capabilities, the Google Pixel 6 phones will be able to capture images from two sensors simultaneously. One is meant to capture the image at normal exposure, while the other sensor uses a wide-angle and faster shutter speed. This can significantly improve the quality of images produced by Android phones.
Google Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro Using New UI for Android
The Pixel 6 phones will also be the first to use the latest Android UI, Material You. This UI takes on a more humanistic approach to design. It aims to create personal designs for every style with accessibility and adaptability at the forefront.
Building on the current UI, Material You promises to deliver interactions that feel smoother and more natural. It also uses a new design framework with updated animations. And the cool thing about the Material You UI is that it uses motion to understand space. It’s adaptable, reacting to changes in the screen and context in a consistent but more human way.
Google Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro Design
Of course, we can’t talk about a new phone without discussing its design. A significant difference in the Pixel 6 phones’ design is replacing the camera island with a camera strip. This provides more room for the camera assembly to pack in the hardware. And without a small camera assembly pivoting around, there is more stability when resting the phone on a surface, such as a desk.
This camera strip is seen as a large black strip across the top of the phone’s back. Since the Google Pixel 6 will offer various colour options, the camera strip gives the rear a two-tone design. However, there are colour options that incorporate an accent colour at the top.
We see an almost full screen for the front of the phone with a small centred hole for the front camera and thin bezels around the screen. Google has also corrected the under-display earpiece of the Pixel 5 by reverting to a more traditional earpiece speaker for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Final Thoughts
With these teasers, it seems that the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have much to offer. However, Google has yet to reveal all its cards. And we can only wait to see the full picture of the Pixel 6 phones.
