Realme GT2: The Next Great Flagship to Look Out For

We finally got our hands on the Realme GT2 right after the company released their entire GT2 line globally. This particular model was announced right around the new year and has already piqued the interest of many, especially the more premium version, which is the Realme GT2 Pro. While the Pro has definitely beefier specs, the GT2 isn’t that far behind. Let’s look at what the Realme GT2 has to offer and if it’s worth buying.

Realme GT2

Overview

In recent years, Realme has made quite a name for themselves for releasing a couple of blockbusters in the market. Now, the company has taken another leap into releasing a high-end flagship phone that can stand on its own and compete with other flagship units in the market. The Realme GT2 is customised for young people and includes all the bells and whistles that this generation is looking for.

Design

The body of the Realme GT2 is something worth noticing with its simple but elegant-looking colour scheme. It comes in Paper White, Paper Green, Steel Black, and Titanium Blue colours that perfectly appeal to the younger generation. Interestingly, the phone comes with a specially designed body made from bio-based polymer, giving it that paper feel, which is a new milestone for smartphones. Thanks to the genius of Naoto Fukusawa, industrial design master, and his “nature meets technology” concept for the Realme GT2.

Display

The Realme GT2’s display is slightly bigger than its predecessor, with a 0.2-inch difference. While that may seem small, in the smartphone wars, that’s actually quite a big leap. It’s a fairly hefty device, and some people may find it uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time. On the plus side, you get to enjoy the 6.62 inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Camera

For this iteration of the Realme line, the GT2 packs a 50MP primary paired with an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro rear collection of cameras. For the front end, you get a 16MP camera, which is suitable for your selfie sessions. At first, it may seem like a downgrade from the 64MP camera of the original GT. However, do take note that the GT2 uses a Sony IMX766 sensor, which is definitely one hell of an upgrade.

Performance and Specs

The Realme GT2 uses Snapdragon 888, which is 2021’s gold standard for most android phones. It also comes in two variants: an 8GB RAM with 128GB storage and a 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. The GT2 uses Android 12 that’s been overlaid with the Realme UI 3, which features quite a design overhaul compared to its previous version.

The phone itself is quite powerful and packed full of features. You can expect good performance from a flagship unit like this, but it’s not something to write home about. If you want a noticeable leap in performance, then go for the Realme GT2 Pro, which uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

Battery

Keeping up with the trend, the Realme GT2 also packs a 5,000mAh battery, which is more than enough to let you cruise throughout an entire day’s use. As with all GT phones, it has 65W charging, which is pretty fast already.

Pricing

While Realme has released a couple of best-selling phones in the past, the GT2 Pro is perhaps the brand’s most interesting device yet. In terms of flagships, the company has made a real effort into working to a small budget without cutting corners and removing important features. It’s also worth noting that they’re doing things a little differently compared to their competitors.

The Realme GT2 Pro has a price tag of around £600 at its release, and it’s perhaps the most tempting smartphone to get among all the other releases with it.

Final Verdict

The Realme GT2 is a great offering from Realme, it definitely has all the must-haves of the flagship smartphones that are already out in the market. Sure, there are better devices out there, some even six times the price, but the Realme GT2 Pro is a great way to get into the flagship smartphone game for a much more reasonable price.
