It’s been a little over a month since Apple announced its new device — the AirTag. With AirTags arriving at people’s doorsteps, we can’t help but think if it was actually worth the wait and worth the bucks.
For many people, AirTags are meant to be used as an “insurance policy” against loss rather than its cool aesthetics. At first glance, it may not seem exciting, but once you lose something, you’ll realize that it’s a godsend. Since the AirTags are in its first version, you can expect that there may be wonky areas in its development.
Now that you have a durable smartphone case to protect your phone, how about protecting your gadget and things from getting lost? In this article, we’ll dig deep into the reasons we love Apple’s AirTags and why we hate them. Let’s take a look!
We Love Apple AirTags Because…
1. Seamless Setup
One of the things Apple is known for is its simplicity, and the AirTags are no exception. The AirTag is incredibly easy to set up — all you need to do is pull out the plastic tag, allow the battery to make a connection, hold the AirTag close to your phone, and when a window appears with a spinning AirTag, simply click connect.
2. Impressive Range
When it comes to locating items, AirTags do a fantastic job. The Precision Finding feature works impressively well, as long as your phone can detect your AirTag’s signal. And since the AirTag emits a faint sound when it’s being located, as long as space isn’t as noisy, you’ll be able to hear it in a 30-foot radius.
3. Quite Affordable
Thankfully, you can get all these features for only £29 for an AirTag and £99 for four pieces. They’re a bit more pricey than their competitor, the Tile’s base Mate tracker, but the difference is only a few pounds.
We Hate Apple’s AirTags Because…
1. You Need to Buy a Holder
Unlike the Tile and other tracking devices, the AirTags need a holder to attach them to certain items. Apple cells their holders at £29, which is the same price as an AirTag — a pretty ridiculous approach.
Fortunately, Apple sells a cheaper version of the holder by Belkin, which is at £13. Hopefully, we’ll see more third-party brands develop their own Apple AirTag holders at a much lower price, like all the other high-quality smartphone cases out there.
2. You’re Vulnerable to Stalking
Sure, the AirTag has features where you’ll get alerted when a person plants a tracker on you without your knowledge. But if an AirTag isn’t registered, you’ll begin to hear a chirping sound when you get home. For Android devices, on the other hand, you won’t get any alert, but instead, you’ll hear a never-ending chirping.
3. It Comes in One Form
The Apple AirTag looks quite impressive at first glance, but when you need to place the device in different things, such as your wallet or keys, it could be a nuance since its shape isn’t very helpful. Its form doesn’t allow you to seamlessly put the device in things because it is round, it’s about a quarter of the size big, and has a big bump in the centre.
The Final Thought: Apple AirTags: Do We Love It or Do We Hate It?
Depending on what floats your boat, you may love all the features of Apple’s new baby. Hopefully, our love it or hate it article could help you decide whether you need the Apple AirTag and if it will be useful for you. So besides buying a smartphone case to protect your phone, add a bit more security with your belongings by having an Apple AirTag.
